“I’m a small business owner – How can I leverage social media?”
Surely, this question always comes up when people talk about social media. I hear this most of the time when I attend webinars or live events.
This is why I wanted to share with you guys what I’ve learned from David Meerman Scott about leveraging social media.
What is Social Media?
Often, we think of social media as being on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media platforms - which is true! – but honestly, it’s just part of it. And while it’s just a part of it, David Meerman Scott points out that it does not portray the entire picture accurately and that the emphasis should be placed on the word “social,” which means sharing.
Social media is all about providing valuable content that’s worthy of being shared.
What does it mean?
Let’s say, you create a video, a podcast, or a blog post. If that content is well done and if that content is focus on adding value to your target audience, people would be eager to share it. And the social way that people share it is through social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
Social Media Is Not A Stand-Alone Thing
One of the reasons why a lot of us get overwhelmed with social media is that we think of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms as a stand alone thing that we need to focus on. We always got hang up with all the new social media networks popping up that we lose sight on proving valuable content.
Inbound Marketing Takeaway
Don’t hung up yourself on creating the right profiles or staying up-to-date. Instead, focus on providing content that’s worthy of being shared.
That’s it for now! If you got something to share, please let me know in the comments below.
Hope to hear from you soon!
